If you are like most Windows XP users, you've already set Windows Update for automatic. However here's a little tip: Go to the Windows Update page (through Internet Explorer), there you'll see two options: "Express" and "Custom".

Try the Custom update on a regular basis: You'll mostly see hardware and software updates that you may not understand or care about. However, a few months ago, I found and installed an update for a wireless card on one of my PCs. Before the update the wireless signal strength was about 50 - 60% after the update the signal strength went up the high 90%!

Check it out!

Great tip Jeff!! I never used Custom always Express. I am now getting updates that I thought I was getting all along. But I wasn't!

Thanks!

You're welcome Tom, but a word of warning: Make sure you set a "Restore Point" before attempting any unfamiliar hardware updates. I did an update to a graphics card and my screen went "wonky" and had to use the Restore function to make my PC usable again.

Point taken! Do you think it updated something other than the drivers? I update my nvidia drivers often.(sometimes I reset them back because I don't like the way it handles some programs but for the most part I go with the updated drivers.)

I think it was a combination of hardware and software issues. I had switched out the original monitor and I think the driver upgrade didn't realize this (nor did I think of this.) Whoops!
