Obviously the person(s) who set up this board didn't realize that surveying IS our hobby!

True! but I also like to do some metal detecting. Fly flight simulators and radio control planes.
Play ping-pong,tennis and do a little scuba diving. Oh yea and watch movies with my wife.

My main interest since I sold my business is woodworking, but not furniture making. I turn and sculpt. Over a period of decades, whenever I found roots and boles of trees, already partially decomposed, I threw them in the back of the truck. Now that I have time of work on them, I carve irregularly shaped bowls and produce sculptures that retain the natural shape of the wood, but have some recognizable form. From branches, I turn candle stands (for 1", 2", 3" or 4" candles) and weedpots (for dried flowers). The fun of it is that I find patterns and colors in the wood that are not obvious, looking at it from the outside.

That sounds very interesting to me. I always wanted to work with wood since shop class many years ago. I dont have the time or tools right now. I like to collect and look at old glass also.

I started collecting coins in the 1960's. Then I started collecting surveying instruments in the 1970's. I now collect anything related to the history of surveying. Books, Photographs, advertising, just about everything you might think of surveying. What a sickness.

With the economic slowdown, surveying probably is a hobby to many practitioners, as the first entry asserts. But what do you do with your free time? - Will
