what are the specific cad standards for the civil engineering and surveying fields?  i need to know the best cad standards for the civil engineering and surveying field!  ncs has theirs, architects have theirs, and the instructor says the're useless!!,  ansi does not list a set of cad standards for the above fields.  the instructor refuses to help me and says, "my way is the right way!, my way is the only way!,  all other ways are worthless!!"

i need to know these cad standards and more:

  1. dimmension style standards
  2. layer standards
  3. scale standards for specific paper sizes.  our school is restricted to 8.5" x 11"
  4. border standards
  5. drawing area standards
  6. text style standards
  7. appearance standards
  8. sheet style standards
  9. lineweight standards
  10. linetype standards
  11. line color standards
  12. project standards for specific disciplines
  13. alignment standards
  14. roadway standards
  15. railroad standards

every state and the feds seem to publish a different set of cad standards and not one of them sing the same tune!!  i'm interested in a single standard that makes sense to all no matter what the project is.

each standard has some good points but many bad points as well.

is there anyone out there that can help me instead of making me hunt for the snipe?

Most municipalities and State Transportation departments have published CAD standards for their consultants.  Check with what is teh equivalent of the Highway Department for your state.  Most consultants just adopt those standards.

Perhaps "hunting for the snipe" is part of the learning process when you're in school.

I'm really not sure of the necessity of what you're "hunting" for. . .CAD standards are simply that: standards applied to the graphical depiction & representation of what ever data you are depicting - who really cares why they differ so much (inefficient though it is)? - you just basically give the client / agency what they want following their drafting standards, which are oftentimes stipulated in compiled law or public acts. . . there simply is no universal "standard" at use in the industry as a whole.
