| The geospatial field, which includes surveying, GPS, GIS, remote sensing, etc., is forcing rapid changes in field practices. Do we have a professional practice standard that talks about any of these technologies? How can we evolve the profession if there is no general consensus on how it should be practiced? How much longer will the profession even exist? Where do we need to start?

That depends upon what business we are in. If we are restricting ourselves to just the recovery of Real Property Boundaries, then the standards are almost simple. If we are in the land information business, we need to include GIS, land use data, etc. The ALTA/ACSM Minimum Standards are a start and, except for the nonsense passing for "Accuracy Standrads", serve fairly well. Who is having a problem with a lack of standards? Speak up.
