We recently received the letter below from a reader concerning a series Don Wilson wrote in his Rules of the Game column in the June and October issues of PSM this year. Any takers on doing some genealogical research? Tom Gibson, editor It's quite possible that Mulford was Pynchon's assistant (rodman ?) and that is the reason for the book dedication. Additionally, the reviewer /couldn't/ have met the 21 yr. old, or he would've remarked at the young man's ability, so he equated age to the contents that impressed him. I thought some Long Island Surveyors might render a "Random Act Of Genealogical Kindness" by looking for some city directories of that era to see if any listing for Mulford w/ Pynchon, etc. Maybe look at any plats to see both names? - Charlie Almstedt LS |
