Meet Our Staff

Ever wonder who’s behind the scenes at Professional Surveyor Magazine?  Now that we have room on our new website, we’d like to introduce ourselves.

Neil Sandler
Publisher

Neil has been publisher of Professional Surveyor Magazine since 2004.  He began his career as an award-winning daily newspaper journalist and photographer, worked as press aid for a U.S. Senator in Washington, D.C., served as managing editor of a major national trade publication and editor/publisher for a regional bicycling magazine.  He is an avid cyclist, runner, swimmer, hiker, and skier.  In 2008, he completed what he hopes will be first of many triathlons.  Neil is married and has two young children.


Rachael Mock

Advertising Director


Rachael has been the advertising director at Professional Surveyor Magazine for four years. Rachael energetically works to get every advertiser the best ad, placement, and campaign to improve their exposure to the surveying community. She diligently reviews each issue to ensure optimal quality and precision for her valued clients. You may see her at one of the many trade shows around the globe; her affinity for travel and desire to know new and interesting people makes this job a perfect match for her strongest skills. Rachael also enjoy personal travel and fitness training as well as sharing a glass of wine with family and friends.


Karen Seldon
Circulation Manager


Karen joined the staff of Professional Surveyor in 1999. Her primary responsibilities include maintaining our circulation, the monthly distribution of the magazine to subscribers, state trade shows and conventions, and our semi-annual circulation audit. She enjoys walking and spending time with her family and cats.


Shelly Cox
Managing Editor

Shelly gathers and edits the columns for the magazine and helps coordinate between Tom and JoAnne as they prepare the feature stories.  She works at the magazine part time; her other part-time job is as a freelance editor, and her other part-time job is as a mom.  She also has an MA in English, hikes, and loves to sit on her front porch in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.


Jeff Salmon
Web Editor

Jeff has been in the land surveying arena for over six years, working as a survey instrument operator, land survey business manager, and a land use consultant as well as a customer working with land surveyors in land development and building projects. In addition to his work in the survey field, Jeff has over twenty years' experience in the communications industry with management positions in advertising, marketing, and public relations. Jeff is our web editor.
Tom Gibson
Editor


Tom is Professional Surveyor Magazine’s editor as well as a licensed mechanical engineer with 15 years experience in the industry as an engineer. Along the way, he pursued a parallel career as a freelance journalist, focusing on presenting technical material in easy-to-understand terms. He has had many technology-related articles published in engineering trade magazines as well as business and recreation publications.


Angie Duman
Administrator, Classified Ad Sales

Angie has been with Professional Surveyor Magazine since 2001. She handles all accounting/human resources aspects as well as manages the classified ads and reprints for the magazine and website. When not at work, Angie can usually be found playing with her daughter, scrapbooking, and watching her husband coach youth sports.


JoAnne Howland
Art Director


JoAnne has been in the printing/publishing industry for over 10 years and is responsible for the design and layout of Professional Surveyor Magazine. "I can honestly say that I love my job. Being a lover of the outdoors and caring for our environment, I find surveying quite interesting. I get to be creative and learn about different aspects of surveying every month with new editorial and photography supplied by a variety of authors."

Kate O'Leary
Administrative Assistant

Kate is Professional Surveyor Magazine's newest staff member.  She provides administrative support two days a week, including working on long-range projects.  Kate spends her free time with her family, and enjoys cooking and reading. 


Ashley Rose-Nalin

Forum Moderator

Ashley is a recent graduate in land surveying and geomatics engineering as well as civil engineering from Purdue University.  She lives in Nashville, Tennessee and moderates our message boards.
